The invention relates to an electrochemical voltage/current source, in particular fuel cell or battery, in which seawater and/or alkali solution can be used as the electrolyte, having at least one anode (2), which is suitable for use in an electrochemical metal-air cell, and at least one, in particular plate-shaped gas diffusion cathode or air cathode, which has at least one hydrophobic layer. In this case, the housing has a housing area (4) delimited by one or more walls which are impermeable to liquid, it being possible for air or oxygen to be supplied to the housing area (4) via at least one opening. At least one of the liquid-impermeable walls of the housing area (4) is formed, at least in regions, by the cathode (3) or the hydrophobic layer of the cathode (3). The anode (2) is arranged spaced apart from the cathode (3) so as to form an interspace (13) and outside of the housing area (4). The interspace (13) between the active layer and the anode (2) can be filled at least partially with an electrolyte (5), in particular seawater (21), salt water or alkali solutions.
