PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of displaying an image in the optimum manner inexpensively by driving cholesteric liquid crystal even if the liquid crystal is in a relatively high temperature zone and to provide its driving method and an electronic paper using it. SOLUTION: In this driving method for a liquid crystal display element for driving the liquid crystal by applying an AC pulse voltage, the AC pulse voltage for high temperature having smaller pulse width than reference pulse width of a reference AC pulse voltage used at the reference temperature is generated if temperature of the liquid crystal is higher than the reference temperature and is applied to the liquid crystal within the time being equal to the reference pulse width.
