A surface light source for changing the angular range in which the emitted light diffuses and an LCD device capable of selecting the wide-viewing angle display and narrow-viewing angle display by using the same are provided to prevent the viewing angle of a displayed image from being limited due to degradation of the visibility in an inclined direction. An LCD device(1) has an image region(1a) where a plurality of pixels for controlling penetration of the light are arranged in a matrix type. The first light is arranged at the opposite side to the viewing side of the LCD device, and is emitted from the first light-emitting element to the first light guide plate(9) toward the LCD device. A surface light source(8) having narrow angle selectively emits the second light which is reflected by the first slope surface(19) from the second emitting device(21). A device for driving a light source selectively emits the first and second light from the surface light source. An alignment layer is installed inside a pair of substrates(2,3) by covering an electrode. |
