<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound absorbing structure capable of well suppressing the propagation of sound to an upper story space or a lower story space through a stairways space in a multi-story building. <P>SOLUTION: A stairways unit 20 installed in a two-story unit building comprises a plurality of steps 21, side plates 22 supporting both ends of the steps 21, respectively, rise plates 23 installed between the steps 21, respectively, a plurality of fixing wood bases 24 supported, at both ends, on the side plates 22 under the steps 21 and the rise plates 23, respectively, and a gypsum board 25 installed under the fixing wood substrate 24 and supported on the fixing wood substrate 24. In this case, an internal space 26 is formed in the stairways unit 20. The internal space 26 is opened to the stairway moving space 14a side through slits 27 formed in the rise plates 23.
