<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscopic surgical instrument that enables a surgeon to control the exact position of surgical tools at the surgical site. <P>SOLUTION: The endoscopic surgical instrument includes a handle portion, an elongated middle portion, an articulation portion and a tool portion. The tool portion is steerable by control mechanisms disposed on the handle portion which are accessible to one hand of a user of the endoscopic surgical instrument.
