PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic thin film transistor which has high mobility and superior thermal stability. SOLUTION: The organic thin film transistor has a gate electrode, an insulating layer, a source electrode and a drain electrode, and an organic semiconductor layer on a base, wherein the organic semiconductor layer contains a compound represented by general formula (1) A-(Y)<SB>n</SB>. (In the formula, A represents an aromatic hydrocarbon ring or aromatic heterocyclic ring, or a condensed ring where at least three aromatic hydrocarbon rings or aromatic heterocyclic rings are condensed; Y represents a substituent having as a partial structure at least one of interlocking rings each represented as -CO-, -CONH-, -SO<SB>2</SB>-, and -SO<SB>2</SB>NH-; and (n) represents an integer of 1 to 8, where a plurality of Ys may be equal to or different from each other).
