PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binding apparatus which does not cause problems such as missing pages or book binding defective due to leaking of an adhesive when the adhesive is applied onto a bundle of sheets for adhering a cover sheet thereon. SOLUTION: The binding apparatus includes: a device housing; a sheet bundle holding means which holds a bundle of sheets in a position where an adhesive is applied; an adhesive container which stores a thermal melting adhesive; a heating means housed in the adhesive container which melts the adhesive at a predetermined temperature; a temperature controlling means which controls the heating temperature; an applying means which applies the adhesive onto the bundle of sheets; a cover binding means disposed on the downstream of the position where the adhesive is applied which binds the bundle of sheets with the adhesive applied thereon with the cover sheet. The temperature controlling means includes (1) a first sensing means which detects the temperature of the adhesive in the adhesive container, and (2) a second sensing means which detects the ambient temperature in the device housing.
