PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of opening and closing a shutter member responding to a slight displacement of a recovery case for a waste toner and capable of effectively preventing the waste toner from spilling. SOLUTION: A shutter member 32 is opened and closed in such a manner that when a toner recovery case 38 is set, a projection provided on the toner recovery case 38 moves a lever 35, which operates the shutter member 32 via a connecting member 34. When the toner recovery case 38 is detached, the projection is disengaged from the lever 35 to close the shutter member 32 by a forcing means 36. The waste toner 39 is carried by a carrying coil 33 placed inside a toner carrying pipe 31 and dropped into the recovery case 38 through a toner discharge port 40 provided at an end of the toner carrying pipe 31. The moving distance of the toner recovery case 20 is the sum d+a of the moving distance (d) of the case until the discharge port 40 enters the recovery case 38 and the moving distance (a) until the shutter member 32 is opened. The moving distance can be extremely reduced compared to a moving distance of a conventional device, and thereby, a small-sized device with a saved space can be obtained. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
