PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce excessive exposure to a subject at initiation and termination of helical scanning. SOLUTION: The X-ray CT apparatus places an X-ray generation means for exposing a subject laid on a bed to an X-ray and an X-ray detection means for detecting an X-ray image formed by the X-ray exposure by a row of detectors disposed to face each other on a rack, controls the bed or the rack to be relatively moved into a rotation axis direction, and images a desired location of the subject by irradiating the X-ray while rotating the rack. The X-ray CT apparatus includes a shield means for shielding the X-ray irradiated from the X-ray generation means and a control means for controlling the shield means so as to shield the X-ray in a region not used for image reconstruction upon helical scanning.
