The present invention refers to an abatable trap for capturing lobster, and a ballast for allowing the same to be sunk and stabilized. The abatable trap prevents the same from being lost offshore since the cutting edges located at one side portion thereof do not allow plants, seaweeds and strange bodies to be entangled in a buoy and confuse it with the trap, thereby obstructing the visibility of the trap from the ship that transports the trap to the zone where the species are captured. The operation of the trap consist in the following steps: Unfolding the side panels of the trap from the base thereof by means of hinges, locating bulkheads using the sliders of the panels, assembling the entrance accesses and attaching the same to the structure by means of locks, assembling and installing a bite box, and closing the structure by means of a lid; once the structure has been assembled the ballast is installed, the trap therefore being ready to be used. The trap is disassembled by followin g the inverse assembling process, the bulkheads, accesses and bite box are stored in the hollow formed by the base and the lid of the trap, thereby saving time and effort.
