PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a holey fiber that can be easily fusion-spliced with extremely low splice loss while keeping high mechanical strength and to provide a method for manufacturing a holey fiber. SOLUTION: The holey fiber has a core part centered in a cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and a clad part placed in the periphery of the core part and having holes formed like layers around the core part, wherein a connection part is formed at least from one end to a predetermined length, and the refractive index of the core part in the connection part is higher than the refractive index of the clad part excluding the pores in the connection part.
