A method of producing an L-amino acid which comprises culturing a bacterium belonging to the family Enterobacteriaceae and being capable of producing the L-amino acid in a medium, producing and accumulating the L-amino acid in the culture medium and then harvesting the L-amino acid from the culture medium, wherein a fat having been treated with an enzyme catalyzing a hydrolysis reaction of the fat or an ester exchange reaction between the fat and an alcohol is employed as the carbon source in the medium as described above.
