An automatic coffee-making machine comprises a hopper 17 containing ground coffee having slidably mounted beneath it a container 13a, which is controlled by hydraulic or pneumatic means, and conveys a measured amount of coffee to each, in turn, of a number of strainers 10 rotatably mounted on a plate 10a, a water reservoir 2, heater 9, valve assembly 20 controlling the discharge of a measured quantity of water from the reservoir 2 to a strainer 10 and a jet of water 18 to remove the coffee grouts from the strainers 10. The cycle of operations is controlled by a distributer 11 which supplies hydraulic or pneumatic fluid through valves 22-24, 26-29, 31-32 to cylinders controlling each separate operation. First, fluid is supplied to cylinder 15 which depresses its piston and causes a lever 14 to pivot, and so slide the container 13a to the right and charge the strainer 10 with ground coffee, then the fluid is withdrawn and the container moves back under the action of spring 25. Next, fluid is supplied to cylinder 12, which depresses its piston and causes lever 19 and link 19a to pivot and lift the plate 10a to position it below the valve assembly 20. Then valve 4 is operated to charge a chamber 7 with heated water and afterwards valve 8 is operated to allow the water in chamber 7 to flow into strainer 10 thereby producing a coffee infusion. The plate 10a is then lowered, rotated and the cycle of operations repeated. The valves of the distributer 11 are operated in sequence by articulated levers actuated by eccentrics on a shaft driven through gearing.</p> |
