<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide monolithic refractory and a method of manufacturing a shaped body of the monolithic refractory which achieve remarkably improved strength and thermal shock resistance of the refractory under an atmosphere where heating to a high temperature and cooling are repeated to cause severe temperature variation. <P>SOLUTION: The monolithic refractory has a surface covered with a resin and contains ≥2 pts.mass inorganic fiber yarn having ≥70 MPa tensile strength under 1,200°C to 100 pts.mass refractory raw material.
