Lollies are formed by compressing a piece of lolly-material in a cylindrical mould having 3 pts. Slots in the perimeter of a rotating drum form the half. Blocks linked together to form a chain form the upper half of the mould, each block contributing one quarter of the mould wall. The chain is in contact with the drum surface for a rotation of >=90 degrees of the drum about its axis. During this time a plunger mounted on the drum coaxially with the mould whose outer dia. corresponds to the inside of the mould is forced by a guide profile attached to the drum chassis into the mould. The lolly material is compressed to the shape of the lolly as defined by the head of the mould and the plunger head. At the same time another plunger mounted on the opposite side of the mould inserts the lolly-stick into the lolly. The two plungers are then returned and, as the chain leaves the drum, the finished lolly is easily removed from the drum either mechanically or by hand. The lolly material is fed in a continuous band onto the drum surface moving in the same direction as the drum. As the chain descends onto the drum surface the leading edge of the block cuts off a piece of the material and encloses it in the mould. The drum is driven by a motor. The continuous chain is driven by the engagement of the mould blocks with the plunger. The machine is quiet and, since all the parts move in the same direction and the mould closes gradually, there is minimal wear.
