A tractor-drawn haymaking machine, which is, in use, wide compared with its dimension longitudinally of the direction of travel, is provided with two sets of groundwheels 5 and 20, 34, whose planes of rotation are mutually perpendicular. the machine being adjustable from an operating position (Fig. 3), in which it is supported by one set of ground-wheels 5 so that its haymaking elements 3 lie transverse to the direction of travel, to a transport position (Figs. 1 & 2) in which it is supported by the other set 20, 34 and is relatively narrow transversely to the direction of travel. The haymaking machine has a series of rake-heads 3 rotatable about substantially vertical axes and supported by wheels 5 mounted centrally within the heads, the heads being mounted on a common transverse beam 1 and being driven from the tractor by a longitudinal shaft in a housing 6 and by bevel gearing (not shown). The housing 6 has pivoted to it, at 12, an arm 9 carrying a retractable extension 13, the extension being extensible by a threaded crank 16 and mounting a wheel 20 on its lower end. The arm is movable about its pivot 12 by a further threaded crank 26 connected between an upward extension 10 of the arm 9 and the main beam 1. The wheel 34 is mounted on an arm 32 pivoted, at 31, to the main beam and held in a lowered (Fig. 2) or a raised (Fig. 3) position by a catch 35. During operation, the arm 9 is raised till nearly horizontal and a clevis 28 can be slid along the arm 9 to engage the tractor drawplate 46. The wheel 20 is removed and lodged in brackets 45 (see Fig. 1) on a drawbar 38 which is used only during transport. For transport (Fig. 1) this drawbar 38 is swung into the full-line position and supports one end of the machine when connected to the tractor. |
