PURPOSE:To control temperature at a comfortable value of a particular area such as an area which people use most frequently in a room by means of a simple arrangement by detecting the temperature of an area specified beforehand in a room by means of an infra-red ray temperature sensor and controlling the air conditioner by the detected temperature of the area. CONSTITUTION:When infra-red ray radiated from an area X in a room which is beforehand specified is projected through a reflection mirror 17 to an infrared sensor 19, the signal from the infra-red ray sensor 19 is converted into heat and a compressor is driven by a controller 29. The compressor is thereby con trolled by ON and OFF so as to keep the area X at a specified temperature all the time. With this arrangement the temperature of the area in a room where comfortableness is most required can be controlled with emphasis placed on most comfortable temperature.
