The device has a chip removing tool and has a vaccum unit for the resulting chips. An additional vacuum unit is mounted upstream to the vacuum unit in the area of the tool. The additional vacuum unit is an impeller producing a vacuum. The vanes of the impeller is formed such that the chips impinging on the vanes are guided in the direction of the exhaust device.
