PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rail guide device for an elevator balance weight with sufficient working efficiency capable of enhancing certainty and stability on the work in the lifting work of the balance weight, and easily performing the accompanied work. SOLUTION: The rail guide device for the elevator balance weight has a belly part 1b; a head part 1a provided on one end of the belly part and having thickness larger than the belly part; and a base part 1c provided on the other end of the belly part and fixed into the hoistway. The rail guide device has a pair of guide rails temporarily hung in the hoistway; the balance weight liftably arranged between the guide rails; and a shoe material 2c slidably engaged with the guide rail. The rail guide device is provided with guide shoes 2 mounted to both side upper and lower ends of the balance weight; and a pair of guide fittings 5 of approximately L shape in plan view opposed to each other so as to clamp the belly part of the guide rail, detachably mounted to the guide shoes from a counter balance weight side.
