BACK LIGHT ASSEMBLY AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY APPARATUS HAVING THE SAME

A backlight assembly and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) having the backlight assembly are provided to arrange only a single diffusion sheet on a light guide plate having prism patterns formed on the bottom face and the top face thereof so as to reduce the cost, thickness and weight of the backlight assembly. A backlight assembly(100) includes a lamp(110), a light guide plate(200), a reflecting sheet(120) and at least one optical sheet(130). The light guide plate includes a light-receiving face, a bottom face having a first prism pattern(250) including first prisms formed at a predetermined interval and flat portions formed between neighboring first prisms and a top face having a second neighboring prism pattern(270). The flat portions are perpendicular to the light-receiving face. The first prism pattern has a stripe shape formed in parallel with the light-receiving face. The reflecting sheet is located under the light guide plate. The optical sheet is arranged on the light guide plate.
