<p>A display unit provided with a plurality of condensing elements (54a) between a lighting unit and a display panel (100). The first substrate (10) of the display panel (100) is disposed on the lighting unit side of a display medium layer (23), and a second substrate (11) is disposed on the observer side of the display medium layer (23). Pixels Px have translucent regions Tr that use light (41) incident from the lighting unit to display in a translucent mode, and the first substrate (10) has a transparent electrode region, for defining the translucent regions Tr, on a display medium layer (23) side. The condensing elements (54a) are disposed in association with the translucent regions Tr of pixels Px, and disposed so as to form the converging point of light output from the lighting unit at a position closer to an observer than to the display medium layer (23). Accordingly, light from a lighting unit is used more efficiently to increase luminance without being restricted by pixel arrangement or the like.</p> |
