An LED (Light Emitting Diode) short circuit (K) diagnosis unit has a controller (A) using a clock signal (phi1) to switch the feeding of a diagnosis current (Idiag) to the load (L) and process the resulting load voltage drop. Independent claims are included for diagnosis procedures using the diagnosis unit.
