PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of preventing troubles that an elevating/lowering tray comes below an elevating/lowering lever or the elevating/lowering tray is collided with the elevating/lowering lever when a paper feed tray unit is turned upwardly, and then, returned to the original position. SOLUTION: A document feeder has an elevating/lowering lever 44 for elevating/lowering an elevating/lowering tray 42 to the loading position at which a document is loaded and the delivery position at which the document is delivered, and the elevating/lowering tray 42 is turnably supported with respect to a conveying unit F. A regulating means for regulating the turning operation of the elevating/lowering tray 42 at the predetermined delivery position at which the elevating/lowering tray 42 is elevated from the loading position. The regulating means comprises, for example, an engagement piece 42c provided on the elevating/lowering tray 42, and an engagement hole 44a which is formed in the elevating/lowering lever 44 and engaged with the engagement piece 42c at the predetermined delivery position.
