PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus designed so as to reduce deformation of a transfer body caused by contact. SOLUTION: According to each of the states (power-saving mode, moving mode, transfer mode, etc.) of the main body of the apparatus, the contact/non-contact between a primary transfer roller and an intermediate transfer belt, and a photoreceptor drum is changed, thereby reducing curling tendency of the intermediate transfer belt and image defects caused by scratches of the photoreceptor or intermediate transfer belt.
