1,216,355. Refining potassium salts. KALICHEMIE A.G. 10 Oct., 1968 [31 Oct., 1967], No.48096/68. Heading C1A. .A crude potassium salt is refined by separating the crude salt in an electrostatic field underground in a mine into a concentrate containing the major proportion of potassium present and a residue containing less than 2À5% by weight of K 2 0, the residue being stowed in the worked out areas of the mine and the concentrate being transported above ground for further refining e.g. by flotation, electrostatic treatment, or solution treatment. In the example silvinite containing 12.5% K 2 0 is crushed and treated with benzoic acid in colloidal silica, the treated ore is then separated in an electrostatic field of 3 kv/cm., the entire process being carried out at the underground temperature of the salt. After separation the concentrate is transported -to the surface and subjected to a flotation treatment with stearylamine as a collector -and pine oil as a frother.
|
