The magnet (2) and/or the sensor (3) cooperate with a moving element (4), wherein a relative movement between the sensor (3) and the magnet (2) may be brought about by the moving element (4). The magnet (2) generates an essentially dipole magnetic field (5). The sensor (3) measures the components of the magnetic field (5) in three linear independent spatial directions (6) in the sensor (3) at the same place (7). The movement and/or position and/or speed of the moving element (4) can thus be determined from the magnetic field strengths detected by the sensor (3).
