PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology inhibiting formation of condensate caused by low pressure EGR gas and inhibiting corrosion at a section where the low pressure EGR gas flows when an exhaust gas recirculation device for an internal combustion engine is provided with the low pressure EGR passage. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a turbocharger including a turbine arranged in an exhaust gas passage of the internal combustion engine and a compressor arranged in an intake air passage of the internal combustion engine, the low pressure EGR passage taking part of exhaust gas from the exhaust gas passage at a downstream of the turbine in as low pressure EGR gas and re-circulating the low pressure EGR gas to the intake air passage at an upstream of the compressor, and a heat pump including an evaporator arranged in the low pressure EGR passage and cooling the low pressure EGR gas flowing in the low pressure EGR passage. The heat pump is operated when NOx concentration of exhaust gas in the exhaust gas passage is not less than predetermined concentration and temperature of low pressure EGR gas in the low pressure EGR passage at a downstream of the evaporator is higher temperature of fresh air.
