PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine malfunction of a waste toner conveying mechanism in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: A waste developer detection sensor for detecting waste developer is disposed in a waste developer conveyance path. According to the result of the waste developer detection, a recovering adjustment process is performed. According to the result of the recovering adjustment process performed for a predetermined time, it is determined whether the waste developer conveying path is in an abnormal state.
