1312632 Polyepoxide adducts CIBA-GEIGY AB 28 July 1970 [30 July 1969] 36591/70 Heading C3B Adducts, containing epoxy groups are prepared by reacting: (I) polyepoxides and (II) slightly branched polyesters of average M.W. 1200-20,000 consisting of 90-99 mol. per cent of structural units -[O(CH 2 ) 4 O]- and in ester relationship, the remaining units being derived from polyfunctional reactants. From 0À1-0À65 equivalents of II are used per epoxide equivalent of I. II may have the formula: in which R p denotes the hydrocarbon radical of a z-hydric poly-alcohol or -phenol, z=3-6 and c indicates the average number of [O(CH 2 ) 2 COO(CH 2 ) 4 ] units and is such as to provide a M.W. of 1200-20000. Alternatively, II may have the formula: in which R s is the hydrocarbon radical derived from an e-basic aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic polyoarboxylic acid (obtained by removal of COOH groups), e= 3-6 and d indicates the average number of [O(CH 2 ) 2 COO(CH 2 ) 4 O] units and is such as to provide a M.W. of 1200-20000. Suitable I are diglycidyl or di(#-methyl)-glycidyl esters of diols or diphenols diglycidyl esters of dibasic carboxylic acids, 3,4- epoxyhexahydrobenzal - 3<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP>- epoxy - cyclohexane - 1<SP>1</SP>,1<SP>1</SP> - dimethanol, 1,1<SP>1 </SP>- methylenebis - (3 - glycidyl - 5,5 - dimethylhydantoin) and N(1),N(3) - diglycidyl - 5,5 - dimethylhydantoin. Polyaddition may take place at 100-200‹ C. optionally in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. a tertiary amine. The products may be cured by conventional epoxy resin curing agents to give mouldings of high crystalline transition temperature and high tensile strength. |
