PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an antimicrobial porous thin film efficiently utilizing silver microparticles homogeneously dispersed in the film, excellent in the long-term sustainability of the antimicrobial effect, and high in transparency with no discoloration by silver colloid. SOLUTION: The method for producing the antimicrobial porous thin film comprises the following process wherein a silver compound is added to a precursor solution containing a silicon alkoxide, a catalyst and a nonionic surfactant to prepare a film-forming solution, which is then coated on a substrate, followed by baking.
