摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a sintered magnet of R-Fe-B system excellent in productivity, having a high performance, and the coercive force of which has been increased while suppressing the reduction in the residual magnetic flux density; and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing a rare earth permanent magnet, in a state where powder composed of an alloy of R<SP>1</SP>i-M<SP>1</SP>j (R<SP>1</SP>is rare earth element including Y and Sc, M<SP>1</SP>is one or more kinds of element selected from among Al, Si, C, P, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Zr, Nb, Mo, Ag, In, Sn, Sb, Hf, Ta, W, Pb, and Bi, 15<j&le;99, and i is the rest) and including 70 volume percentage or more of intermetallic compound phase is disposed on the surface of a sintered compact having a composition of Ra-T<SP>1</SP>b-Bc (R is rare earth element including Y and Sc, T<SP>1</SP>is Fe and/or Co, a, b, c are atomic percentages, wherein 12&le;a&le;20, 4.0&le;c&le;7.0, and b is the rest), the sintered compact and the powder are subjected to heat treatment at a temperature lower than or equal to the sintering temperature of the sintered compact in vacuum or in an inert gas.
