<p>A catheter (100,200,300) includes an elongate member (120,220,320) having a braided (254,354) and coiled (256,356) reinforcing layer (150,250,350) encased within a polymeric bonding layer (142). The reinforcing layer comprises a plurality of continuous filaments (152,252) that transform from a braided configuration to a coiled configuration in a least one location along the catheter.
