PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce wax deposition temperature at the time of using a refrigerating machine oil having, as the principal components, a lower hydrocarbon cooling medium and a hydrocarbon base oil. SOLUTION: The refrigerating machine oil for a hydrocarbon cooling medium which is used for a cooling medium containing a 1-5C hydrocarbon comprises 100 pts.mass of a hydrocarbon base oil and 0.001-0.05 pts.mass in total of at least one of sulfide oil and fats and olefin sulfide. The hydrocarbon base oil is preferably a mineral oil having %Cp of 40 or more, a pour point of -27.5°C or lower, and kinematic viscosity at 40°C of 3-200 mm<SP>2</SP>/s.
