PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more enhance focusing accuracy after focus drive. SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus 200 has focus detecting means 208 and 210 which detect the defocus amount of an imaging optical system 201a and a control means 210 which obtains a focus drive amount, on the basis of the defocus amount detected by the focus detecting means and a focus correction amount for decreasing the positional difference between the best image surface and imaging surface of the imaging optical system and allows the focus drive according to the focus drive amount. The control means obtains a correction amount after focus as the focus correction amount after the focus drive, on the basis of the defocus amount before the focus, detected by the focus detecting means, before the focus drive, to obtain the focus drive amount for performing the focus drive, on the basis of these defocus amount before the focus and correction amount after the focus.
