PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a copy system and a copy method, capable of performing an initial copy in a short time with high reliability. SOLUTION: In a primary side, an area inside a first volume written with data by a host is managed by use of a first bitmap, a second bitmap reflecting contents of the first bitmap is formed in time of the initial copy, and the second bitmap is transmitted to an auxiliary side. In the auxiliary side, a third bitmap wherein the second bitmap transmitted from the primary side is merged is formed. In the primary side, only effective data that are the data written by the host inside the first volume are copied to a second volume based on the second bitmap. In the auxiliary side, a difference between the first and second volumes during the initial copy is managed based on the third bitmap. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
