The method involves predetermining an expected value (PS) for a pressure signal on a basis of input parameters by an observer (200). A measured value (PM) for the pressure signal is compared with the expected value. An incorrect measured value is recognized on the basis of the comparison between the measured value and the expected value. A correction vector is determined on the basis of the comparison between the measured value and the expected value. A state vector is corrected with the correction vector such that a deviation between the measured and expected values is minimized. An independent claim is also included for a device for monitoring a pressure signal i.e. rail pressure signal of common-rail system.
