PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device which can retrieve image information, to which keywords are not given, with keywords. SOLUTION: This is an image-retrieving method which retrieves image information in a database. An image-retrieving device detects text information which is associated beforehand with the image information in the database, where the image information corresponds to keyword information, computes the first characteristic quantity from the image information corresponding to the detected text information, determines whether the first characteristic quantity is similar to the second characteristic quantity which is computed from the image information in the database, according to the difference between these quantities, and outputs the image information corresponding to the second characteristic quantity if it determines they are similar.
