PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an end portion of a needle thread and a bobbin thread cut by a needle thread cutting means and a bobbin thread cutting means and held by a needle thread holding mechanism and a bobbin thread holding mechanism from being sewn when starting sewing. SOLUTION: A needle thread cutting device 30 for cutting the needle thread, the needle thread holding mechanism 31, and a needle thread direction adjusting mechanism 33 are arranged in the upper side of a head portion 2 and a bobbin thread cutting device 60 for cutting the bobbin thread, the bobbin thread holding mechanism 61, and a bobbin thread direction adjusting mechanism 63 are arranged in the head portion 2 in a pattern sewing machine 1. The pulling direction of the needle thread 14 can be changed by the needle thread direction adjusting mechanism 33 such that the pulling direction of the needle thread 14 in a thread end holding state differs from the sewing direction when starting pattern sewing. The pulling direction of the bobbin thread 21 can be set to be the same direction advancing from a needle dropping point 5a to a thread guide hole 23b of a bobbin case 23 by the bobbin thread direction adjusting mechanism 63.
