An apparatus and a method for controlling time shift record in a digital broadcasting receiver are provided to allow a user to view a broadcasting program continuously through a time shift recording operation even though the user tunes another broadcasting program while watching the broadcasting program. A broadcasting program received through a current broadcasting service is recorded when a specific key is inputted in a broadcasting watch mode. When the current broadcasting service is requested to be changed while the broadcasting program is recorded(S18), the current broadcasting service is changed to a broadcasting service corresponding to the request. When the changed broadcasting service corresponds to a broadcasting service for providing the recorded broadcasting program(S19), a time shift recording operation which records a currently received broadcasting program while searching a recording start point of the recorded broadcasting program and playing the recorded broadcasting program is performed(S20,S21).
