PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably update a reference image after lock-on is canceled. SOLUTION: An image tracking device is constituted so as to repeatedly recognize the position of an object in a screen based upon image information repeatedly acquired by an imaging element 25 and reference information (tracking control unit 36), detect a focus adjustment state of an optical system as to a focus detection position set in the screen (focus detecting operation unit 34), and perform focus adjustment according to a focus adjustment state of the focus detection position corresponding to the recognized position of the object, wherein the reference information stored in a storage unit 37 is changed when restarting the focus adjustment after suspending the focus adjustment based upon at least one of the recognition result based upon the image information and the focus detection result.
