PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To capture a photographic image with suitable lightness in each of two areas of an entire photographing visual field and a specific area in the visual field in a photographing apparatus such as a digital camera. SOLUTION: The photographing apparatus comprises an imaging means for imaging a subject to capture image data, a display means for displaying the captured image data, and an exposure determining means for determining exposure conditions in accordance with lightness of the subject, and performs photographing in accordance with the exposure conditions determined by the exposure determining means. The photographing apparatus further comprises an area display means for displaying a predetermined area A2 preset within a photographic visual field A1 on the display means, the exposure determining means determines first exposure conditions based on lightness of the entire photographic visual field A1 and second exposure conditions based on lightness of the predetermined area A2, thereby continuously performing, in photographing, first photography according to the first exposure conditions and second photography according to the second exposure conditions.
