The invention relates to a lid for a container and to a container with a corresponding lid, the outer radial edge region (8) of said lid (2) having a n opening (9), through which a tool that acts as a lever can pass and said l id (2) being provided with a rim (10) below the opening (9), under which the free end of the levering tool engages with the lid (2), lifting the latter at least partially off the container (1) by being pivoted against the rim (1 0) of the lid (2). The edge of the opening (9) comprises at least one part ( 11) that can be torn or broken off from the lid (2) when the tool is introdu ced into the opening (9) or when the lid is taken off. This allows the provi sion of a lid or container comprising a lid with an indicator which clearly identifies whether the lid has already been lifted off the container or deta ched from the latter.
