<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminating apparatus of low power consumption, giving consideration to a light emission efficiency difference due to characteristic variation and deterioration of every LED, and to provide an image projector equipped with the illuminating apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The illuminating apparatus includes: a light source means having a plurality of light emitting diodes 101, 102, 103, 201, 202, 203, 301, 302 and 303 according to colors of illuminating light; a light quantity control means that controls the current value of a current to be supplied to each light emitting diode of the light source means; an emitted light quantity storage means that stores the emitted light quantity of each light emitting diode when the current of the prescribed value is supplied to each light emitting diode of the light source means; and an efficiency sensitivity calculating means that calculates the efficiency sensitivity as the change ratio of the emitted light quantity of each light emitting diode to the current value of the current supplied to each light emitting diode.
