Hollow silica microparticles that inhibit whitening of transparent coating and realize exhibiting of excellent scratch resistance and adherence; and a process for producing the same. There are provided hollow silica microparticles of 5 to 300 nm average particle diameter as measured by a dynamic light scattering method and 50 to 1500 m^2/g specific surface area having a cavity inside each outer shell, wherein a weight loss of 1.0 wt.% or more is exhibited in the temperature range from 200° to 500°C by thermogravimetry (TG). Further, these hollow silica microparticles exhibit a positive DTA peak in differential therm retention measurement (DTA) over the temperature range from 200° to 500°C. |
