PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing device that allows manual writing on an information display sheet, requires no large device for writing and erasing and shows excellent portability. SOLUTION: The writing device is characterized in that: a front transparent panel is disposed in a visible side; a front side transparent conductive film including a solid electrode (or a small area electrode) and metal thin lines is disposed on the front transparent panel; a back panel is disposed in the opposite side to the visible side; a back side conductive film is disposed on the back panel; a rewritable information display sheet is inserted into the space between the front transparent panel and the back panel; a space is provided between the front transparent panel and the inserted information display sheet; a voltage that generates an electric field weaker than the driving threshold of the display medium is applied between the front side transparent conductive film and the back side conductive film; a writing tool is pressed to the front transparent panel to bend, reducing the distance between the opposing conductive films; and thereby, the electric field generated between the conductive films rises over the driving threshold, which moves the display medium to perform writing display.
