A scene searching method and an apparatus therefor are provided to produce a caption based scene searching menu by associating time information of a text caption and caption information with image information of AV data to be reproduced. A scene searching apparatus includes an input unit(110), a display unit(130), a storage unit(140), and a control unit. The control unit has a scene extracting part(121) and a searching part(122). The scene extracting part extracts at least one scene to be reproduced together with at least one text caption from AV data. The searching part performs a user command such as a searching command using a corresponding relation between the at least one text caption and the at least one extracted scene. The control unit includes a reproducing part reproducing scenes according to a searched result or scenes requested by a user.
