A message preparation guide method in a mobile terminal, a method for modifying the quality of a media file, and a method for setting the play period of a media file are provided to convert a media file of an unsupportable format into a media file of a supportable format through file compression or editing in the case of attaching the media file to a message. If the user of a mobile terminal makes a request for the attachment of a media file(S210), the control part of the mobile terminal displays a list of media files to be attached to a message(S220). If the user selects a desired media file(S230), the control part confirms whether the format of the selected media file is supportable(S240). If not(S250), the control part confirms the creation mode of the mobile terminal(S260). If the creation mode is "creation mode WARNING"(S262), the control part displays a guide message to ask the user whether to convert the format of the media file(S270). If the user selects "YES"(S280), the control part displays a menu to execute file compression or editing(S290).
