PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging rate estimation device of a secondary battery capable of converging a charging rate quickly into a correct value even at a charge/discharge switching time. SOLUTION: This charging rate estimation device of a secondary battery has a constitution wherein, when switching from charge to discharge, or from discharge to charge, polarity switching between charge and discharge is discriminated from the polarity of a current, and a time constant corresponding to a switched polarity between a time constant at a charge time and a time constant at a discharge time stored beforehand is substituted as an initial value of an estimation value of the time constant of a battery model type. The device has an effect wherein, even when switching charge/discharge, a time constant estimation value reaches a true value quickly, and a noise is reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
