<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color filter obtaining a non-colored liquid crystal display device when observed from oblique directions with high visibility, in which the thickness-directional retardation value is properly controlled in respective color display pixels of red, green and blue. <P>SOLUTION: In the color filter which comprises at least red display pixel, green display pixel and blue display pixel on a substrate, the thickness-directional retardation value R<SB>Rth</SB>of the red display pixel, thickness-directional retardation value G<SB>Rth</SB>of the green display pixel and thickness-directional retardation value B<SB>Rth</SB>of the blue display pixel satisfy the following expressions (1), (2): (1) ¾(R<SB>Rth</SB>-B<SB>Rth</SB>)¾-¾(G<SB>Rth</SB>-B<SB>Rth</SB>)¾≥0, (2) ¾(R<SB>Rth</SB>-B<SB>Rth</SB>)¾-¾(R<SB>Rth</SB>-G<SB>Rth</SB>)¾≥0 (wherein, R<SB>Rth</SB>, G<SB>Rth</SB>and B<SB>Rth</SB>respectively represents numerical values obtained by multiplying a product of the value by 1,000 obtained by subtracting the thickness-directional refractive index from the average in-plain refractive index of respective pixels and the thicknesses of each pixel). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
