PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air-fuel ratio control device for a generator driving engine capable of, when performing no-load operation in response to a load interruption signal from a load interrupting device in the case of stopping the engine, preventing the functional deterioration of a catalyst by avoiding an excessive temperature rise of a catalyst device arranged in an exhaust passage so as to improve the durability of the catalyst, securing a surplus output in a region of transition from the no-load operation to light-load operation so that the engine can be shifted to load operation smoothly, thereby maintaining the high operating performance of a power generation system. SOLUTION: The generator driving engine includes the catalyst device arranged in the exhaust passage, the load interrupting device for interrupting the load of the engine, and a synchronizer for synchronization with commercial power. The generator driving engine is provided with a controller for setting an air-fuel ratio of the engine to be a lean air-fuel ratio equal to or smaller than a predetermined air-fuel ratio when the engine load interruption signal is issued from the load interrupting device and setting the air-fuel ratio to be a normal air-fuel ratio exceeding the predetermined air-fuel ratio when a synchronization signal for synchronizing power generated by the generator and the commercial power is issued from the synchronizer.
